CHRISTINE & PAUL - ADVENTURE ELOPEMENT - MERRY-GO-ROUND ROCK // SEDONA, ARIZONA// Coconino national forest
I don't even know where to begin describing this amazing day. Let me first say how entirely thrilled I am to finally be writing this, and how challenging it's been to not cry like a baby the entire way through. allen and I had the experience of a lifetime documenting Christine & Paul's beautiful day. The below clip is a shortened version to a video we created for Christine & Paul's elopement, from the drone's perspective. We hope you enjoy.
The red rock canyons of Arizona are magical and thinking back on this day still gives me the heart-stopping feelings all over again. Just wait until you get to the ceremony images, you’ll get what I’m saying. I'm a sap, can't help it!
When I spoke with Christine, she was energized and excited to begin planning this big adventure for her and Paul. When she showed me some of her favorite scenery, I knew the Sedona red rock canyons in the Coconino National Forest was their spot. The canyons are massive, with some of the most beautiful hikes you’ll ever take, and a lot of options for shorter hikes to beautiful scenery for a ceremony. Later on, I ironically found out this is one of the largest proclaimed energy vortexes in the US. (If you know me, you know I love these spiritual findings). Happy accidents are the best:)
.... and this is why we love first looks... Paul's face says it all :) He was so surprised, he didn't know about the flower crown and well, just look at Christine. She was absolutely gorgeous, his "wilderness princess" as he called her, right out of a magazine.
I just love the look on Paul and Christine’s face. When you say “bumpy” you just don’t expect the ride we all had. “Bumpy” does not describe it in the slightest. Poor Christine, all she wanted to do was smooth her lips with chapatick. I’m pretty sure that was a 45 min task itself. This windy, bumpy drive is definitely one for the experts that are driving it, or something similar, all the time. Which makes sense as to why they only allow 4x4 lifted vehicles or ATVs to drive on it. Cars get stuck or bottom out. Seriously, it’s intense if you’re not used to it. We were all super thankful for Mike, our Pink Jeep Tour Guide.
One major aspect of this day, that made it so incredibly impactful for me; was that this trip was not only outside of their comfort zone, but an entirely different kind of adventure than they had ever experienced before. . The jeep ride, hiking in red rock canyons, wearings boots under her wedding dress and Paul being amazing support to her the entire day. Truly, I don't know if I've even seen such a gentleman (other than allen of course..). Christine and Paul aren’t rock climbers, bicyclists, or avid hikers. In fact they both are from big cities on the east coast in the PA/NY area. But here they were, no longer planning, but now experiencing one of the most important day’s of their life; across the country, somewhere they had never been, unsure of what to expect, not knowing how they would feel or what might happen, completely unconcerned about dirt, sand or dust. It’s incredibly inspiring and moving, to be a part of the planning and then being there, capturing them living out this grand adventure, right in front of my eyes. Celebrating their love like this, is beyond brave.
There’s a lot of options to have a ceremony in Sedona, but nothing as epic as the location Christine and Paul chose. I was so incredibly stoked when they decided to take the more challenging route, to say their vows high above the canyons, along the cliffside of Merry-Go-Round Rock.
The amazing Rev. Debbi Brown surprised Christine with Palo Santo, a Peruvian incense, blessing them with good luck and connecting Christine to her Peruvian roots. It was a such a sweet surprise and was so calming, to see them both just close their eyes, relax and enjoy these emotional and powerful moments coming up next.
It was this moment right here, as Paul was saying his vows, that he screamed “I love you” from the top of the canyon. The look on Christine’s face says it all. There is nothing more powerful than saying your vows, screaming your devotion, from the top of a mountain. It was so sweet, romantic and the joy that overcame Christine is infectious.
Then it happened… this insane moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life. The wind was moderate, blowing here and there, up until this very moment. Just as they began to exchange rings and say, “I do”… this intense gust of wind comes through, that throws Christine’s gorgeous gown behind her, giving me chills from it being so strong, throwing me back while I’m hunched down, and continues on for a few minutes, even through their kiss. It was one of those moments where your heart just stops – nothing else matters, it’s an energy you can’t explain, a deep feeling a connected-ness ... just meant to be. It was one of the most incredible moments of the day for me, I felt so incredibly blessed to witness and experience this adventure and unity of love in front of me.
I said this before; if you aren’t doing crazy things for love, then what’s the point!? I feel like walking out on this narrow cliff, is definitely one of those moments. Neither are acrobats, or sky divers… just wanting to share a special experience, a special moment, that scared the hell out of them – but they did it together. That sounds like how we all experience love, right? Scary, vulnerable, never predicable, rushes of emotions; but when you experience it with someone who enjoys that feeling just as much as you do—it's the most rewarding journey of your life.
Christine & Paul finished their amazing, adventurous day with a beautiful, private candle-lit dinner, under a vine covered gazebo, at the L’Auberge de Sedona.
